About the Department

Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a unique 4-year under graduate programme leading to a degree in Mechanical Engineering and 2 year Post Graduate programme leading to a M.E degree in Manufacturing Engineering. The department has well qualified and energetic team of faculties to train and mould the students. There are Non-teaching staff members to assist them. Apart from the theory classes to train the students practically trained on various laboratories during their course tenure.

Students are encouraged to participate in the co-curricular activities like paper presentations attending seminars and workshops etc. Staff meetings were conducted by the HOD for staff members periodically to staffs for discussing and inform the various issues so as to maintain coordination.

Class committee meeting was conducted for the students after the cycle tests and the student’s grievances were rectified. Separate question bank was prepared for every subject by the faculty members and it was given to all the students in the form of booklet for both odd and even semesters for welfare of the students to improve the results.

The students of pre final, final year UG & PG are presented paper in National and international conferences, various project exhibitions. On the whole department supports and guides the students in every aspect to build strong knowledge in the technical areas of mechanical engineering to face the future with confidence.

THERMAL LAB – I

This lab is one of the strong laboratories in Mechanical Engineering department. Students are able to know about all the modes of heat transfer while performing sessional classes. Determination of thermal conductivity by Steady-State method, Radiation Heat Transfer, Thermal Contact-Conductance, Heat Transfer from extended surface, Boiling Heat Transfer, Heat Transfer by Forced Convection etc. are some major fields where students perform their experiments.

THERMAL LABORATORY - II

Thermal laboratory is one of the core laboratories of mechanical engineering. This laboratory consists of various heat engines covering both internal and external combustion engine. More specifically the laboratory consists of variety of internal combustion engine. Such as single cylinder, multi-cylinder, petrol engine, diesel engine. This laboratory gives hands on experience on engine testing and emission testing to the UG level mechanical engineering students. In addition to this the laboratory consists fuel testing, boiler performance testing.

MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY LAB

Manufacturing technology lab established since the inception of college. This laboratory is equipped with special machines and various other facilities required for fundamental machining practice. This machine shop consists of lathes and heavy duty lathes, and special machines. Also this lab consists of few measuring instruments for cutting forces.

CAD / CAM LAB

Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided-Manufacturing (CAM) gives an idea about the software Knowledge of design and manufacturing. The main objective of this laboratory is to provide the knowledge and techniques of the research and applications of CAD/CAM. In addition, CAD/CAM software training will be given to all students at the end of the semester under the continuous education program.

  • One day Guest Lecture on "Special Welding Process" was held on 28-01-2014 for Final Year Mechanical Students. Dr. N.Siva Shanmugam, Professor/Mechanical, National Institute of Technology, Trichy, acted as the Resource person.
